Innovative partnership: Rotary District Switzerland and University of Copenhagen launch environmental project

Monday, December 2, 2024

The Rotary District of Switzerland has launched a pioneering environmental project in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen. The aim is to develop and implement innovative solutions to reduce microplastics in lakes.

In a joint pilot project, an interdisciplinary team of researchers, students and Rotary members will test a new technology designed to efficiently filter microplastics from water. The focus is not only on technical implementation, but also on raising public awareness of the problem of plastic pollution.

A project with charisma
The project is financially supported by Rotary clubs and assisted by volunteers. "This partnership shows what is possible when Rotarians work together with scientific institutions on a sustainable future," says District Governor Peter Gross.

The next step: bringing sustainability into schools
Another component of the project is the development of educational modules that teach pupils about the topic of environmental pollution. The modules are designed in collaboration with teachers and are to be used in selected schools from the coming school year.

Rotary lives responsibility
With this project, the district is sending a strong signal for the protection of the environment and the promotion of sustainable thinking. The Rotary District of Switzerland is once again demonstrating how global problems can be successfully tackled through local initiatives.
